Stabbing hands of trust

There is no doubt about it. Indian foreign policy is pathetic and we are ourselves to blame about it. More than half a dozen neighbours – no body likes us. Heck, they prefer China (a country with one of worst human rights record) over world’s largest democracy. And us?
Recently our protectors of border – BSF tortured a cattle smuggler on camera. Why? He didn’t pay the bribe for the job. I feel secure already.
Now if my understanding is correct – Bangladesh, under PM Sheikh Hasina has bent over backwards to mend relations with India. Despite whole lot of internal pressure and threats of Islamists, army coups and an extremely opportunistic opposition, she has gone ahead to talk with India over any and all kind of bilateral issue. And that’s how we pay. No official apologies. No guarantees this kind of actions won’t be repeated. Not even a word from any body senior or important.
I remember how one of our CM forced Indian government to back-track on one of the most important treaty during the trip from our PM which was supposed to be historic visit. Instead of showing the Bangladeshis that Hasina done a good job by joining hands with India (rather than China or Pakistan), we keep showing that she has sold her country to India.
Our babus and leaders have always preferred to go extra mile when it comes to Pakistan – to score brownie points in external media. Same Pakistan which doesn’t allow trade with India and openly encourages insurgency here. While no such thing takes place with Bangladesh – with whom we have a surplus of around $3 billion and which helped India destroy ULFA’s and NDFB’s armed units. Had they put even 10% of same efforts in trying to please other neighbours – we would have seen South Asia as an India loving zone (may be apart from Pakistan). We host Pakistani actors, artists, poets, authors, sports-person etc. on name of confidence building measures. Why not do the same with our Nepali, Lankan and Bangladeshi brothers? Or are we waiting that the relationship with them turns as sour as we have with Pakistan, before we start appeasing them.
